The Preschool Montessori Classroom

Curriculum Intent :

The preschool curriculum integrates Montessori and the 7 areas of EYFS, emphasising emotional literacy, self-regulation, and social skills. Our primary focus is advancing Communication & Language skills to foster confident self-expression. We intend to boost their confidence whilst promoting independence in all areas, including self-care practices such as dressing, self-feeding, using the toilet and handwashing. Our Intent is to equip our pre-schoolers with the essential cultural capital and experiences that will prepare them to excel in school.

The preschool classroom develops the whole person

One of the most distinguishing features of the preschool Montessori classroom is its extensive use of manipulative items and learning activities. The classroom is filled with these didactic materials that encourage a natural curiosity among children who are eager to choose activities in all areas of our curriculum. This results in confident, happy children that carry a love of learning with them for a lifetime.

All teaching is individualised holding the interest of every child. Our preschool team of highly trained, experienced and dedicated teachers observe, mentor and guide children to their individual potential.


Children’s self-esteem comes from an internal sense of pride in their own accomplishments which comes from allowing them to focus on the things that interest them the most. Children are allowed to engage with an activity for as long as they like without interruption. 


The preschool classroom develops the whole person- socially and intellectually as well as their powers of deliberation, initiative and independent choice. 


Group harmony is vital to individual achievement. Children’s ability to function in a group is developed and they acquire those fundamental social qualities which form the basis of good citizenship. Children take care of their classroom, and learn the art of negotiation and conflict resolution, peacefully. 

OFSTED

All groups of children flourish in the nursery, and they make remarkable progress from their starting points. Children are extremely independent learners who confidently develop and extend their own play activities. They have access to a wealth of open-ended resources which they use imaginatively.


Children have high levels of attainment in early literacy and numeracy and receive admirable support to develop the essential skills for school readiness.

Children are highly confident and show an excellent level of independence as a result of practitioner interaction and a unique and carefully organised learning environment. Children choose freely from a very good range of resources and use a wealth of inspiring Montessori equipment to complete practical life activities.
